Celebrate Memorial Day at World War I Museum in Kansas City ( Kristen Malfer )

One of the most important annual events in Kansas City is the Memorial Day Ceremony that takes place on May 28th at the World War I Museum. This event, which starts at around 9:15am and runs until around 11am, honors veterans and includes live music, a keynote address, civilian and military guest speakers, and a parade. It is free to attend the Memorial Day Ceremony.

For guests who wish to visit the World War I Museum afterward, it opens directly following the ceremony and stays open until 5pm as it is on summer hours. Children are admitted for $6, while adults can enter for $12 and seniors and students for $10.

There are a large number of permanent exhibits at the museum. Objects, weapons, animated battle maps, interactive tables, and heavy machines like tanks are all on display in a number of galleries that take visitors through the history of the war as well as different political, economical, geographical, and national factors of importance.

There are also special exhibits to see, such as a special gallery discussing the importance of sports during war time, and a spotlight gallery that presents rare objects and discusses their historical significance.

Memorial Day Concert at Union Station in Kansas City

There is no shortage of things to do in Kansas City this month, especially considering that we will host the largest Memorial weekend event in the Midwest – the Bank of America Celebration at the Station.

For the tenth year the Kansas City Symphony, led by music director Michael Stern, will perform patriotic songs in front of the historic Kansas City Union Station at 7:30 p.m., but the free of charge festivities start much earlier, with the grounds opening at 3 p.m. This family oriented event will close in due fashion with a fireworks show over the National WWI Museum at 9:15 p.m.

The time to purchase a house is now, as the Missouri real estate market is moving forward and showing signs of improvement, especially over the past few months. Kansas City: Our Best Kept Secret

We love Kansas City and the area around it, so we have never been surprised by how much there is to do in the city. We’re glad that it’s getting some of the attention it deserves, even if it is on a list for underrated cities in the United States. Kansas City came in fourth, which just goes to show that we’re something of an unknown treasure to the rest of the country.

The list makes it a point to pinpoint some of the best aspects of the city. These are just a few of our many perks:

This list does an excellent job keeping people aware of what they should do when they have free time on the weekend or they are coming to visit. We do especially love that they acknowledge the amount of fountains and how great our pedestrian-friendly boulevards are. Even we didn’t know that Kansas City boasts the claim of having the most fountains of any city other than Rome. Maybe it’s time to make some room during the weekend to roam around town and appreciate the fountains a little more?
